The Record Exchange, a popular shop on Colesville Road in downtown Silver Spring is set to shutter its doors for good as of Sunday, though the owners have been busy selling out the rest of their stock in recent weeks.
"There is no easy way to say this but as of June 9 we will be closing for good," the owners said in a message shared across social media.
"This was a hard and heartbreaking decision, but due to both financial and personal reasons, we are unable to keep the doors open."
According to the store's website, they have been serving up new and used vinyl, CDs, DVDs, and video games, reportedly for more than 20 years.
Until the store officially closes, all store credit and punch cards will remain valid, orders are still being shipped
"We are thankful for all the support and patronage ... You guys have given over the years from lining up a Record Store Day super early to coming in and sharing your first record with us," the owners continued.
"These are moments that we will cherish and you know every day every day you shopped with us was a blessing and we are so grateful to have been a part of this community."
Customers took to social media to express their dismay about the unexpected closure.
"I moved away from the DC area 10 years ago, but I have some great memories of the nuggets I found at The Record Exchange Silver Spring," a former shopper said.
"You guys are great and I wish you all the best for the future. I know this must have been a very tough decision. We appreciate what you did for all of us record junkies."
Another added, "I can't put into words how much your business and perseverance in your business has meant to me over so many years.
"I'm basically built out of the treasures I've found at Record Exchange ... My heart is filled because of (you) and if you hadn't built it so strong, it would be breaking, but it's badly bruised by this news."
